Tennis and Learning Center program to expand to include middle schoolers at renovated GGPTC

The Tennis and Learning Center (TLC) is a San Francisco Recreation and Park Department youth development program that currently serves 75 elementary school kids in some of San Francisco’s toughest neighborhoods at Palega, Hamilton and Betty Ann Ong Rec Centers. Thanks to a grant from the USTA National Foundation, a fourth TLC site will commence at Youngblood Coleman in Bayview Hunters Point in the fall of 2018.

Since 2014, TLC has worked on what matters most – good sportsmanship, persistence and a love of tennis.  Each participant receives 10 hours of personalized homework help per week, with additional tutoring support available three days per week; participants receive five hours of tennis instruction per week.

The new Golden Gate Park Tennis Center will include a dedicated TLC classroom space to serve middle school students who “graduate” from the elementary school programs. There they will receive additional training and support to prepare them for high school and beyond.
