Thanks to support from District 8 Supervisor Scott Wiener, two tennis courts at 15th Street (at Corona Heights) and the tennis court and basketball court at Noe Courts (at 24th and Douglass Streets) will soon be resurfaced.
Wiener, who represents Noe Valley and the Castro, earmarked $295,000 for these projects in add-back funds in the City’s budget, which was approved in July. The funding will cover half the cost of both projects, with the SF Recreation & Parks Department paying the other half.
In addition to resurfacing, the funds will pay for fence installation and soft costs. The Noe court project is expected to be completed in fall 2016.
“Tennis is a fantastic sport that promotes public health and brings people together,” said Wiener. “We have great multi-court facilities in places like Golden Gate Park, but it’s essential that our neighborhood courts like those at 15th Street and Noe Courts allow people to play tennis near their homes. Whether it’s a senior getting out for their daily exercise or a parent teaching a child to play, people deserve quality facilities and smooth courts, which is why I secured the funding to improve these courts.”
“I want to thank Supervisor Wiener and the tennis community for making play a priority in District 8,” said Phil Ginsburg, SF Rec & Park General Manager. “The Noe Courts and 15th Street Courts are due for resurfacing, and the Recreation & Park Department is pleased to cover the rest of the project."
